Client Case Study
Newark and Sherwood Museum Service were responsible for Millgate Museum, The Resource Centre, The Gilstrap Centre and The Old Magnus Buildings. In June 2012 we were awarded a Heritage Lottery Grant of £3.5m to open a National Civil War Centre at the group of buildings on Appletongate, The Old Magnus Buildings. This meant that we had to close Millgate Museum to enable us to work on the new museum development. Millgate Museum was closed to the public in October 2012 and we started packing and shipping all the museum objects to our collections store at Brunel Drive in Newark. Included in this process were some very heavy items that we needed moving by a specialist firm. Moving large/heavy and fragile museum objects is a very difficult and worrying task for any museum professional.
“We contacted Emcon Industrial Supplies Ltd and Terry visited the Museum on numerous occasions as more challenging objects were added to the list of removals. He was very thorough, reassuring and assessed each object in turn providing, initially, a verbal appraisal of how each object could be safely moved. This was done in a friendly and professional manner.”
“We were then provided with thorough method of work statements and risk assessments, which arrived on time and were very professionally laid out. A reasonable well thought out quote was also supplied. Based on the above, Emcon were awarded the contract.”
“During the removals, nothing seemed too much trouble and everything was done very professionally. Terry, Luke and Russ provided practical object friendly solutions to any problems that occurred and went above and beyond their initial remit to get the job done in the specified time, even when the inclement weather, cold and snow, tried to intervene! They were friendly, professional and a pleasure to work with ensuring that our deadlines were met and the removals went smoothly.”
